A PACT WITH THE OWN PROFESSION

10 Suggestions for the Future  by Renaldo Nanzer

A pact, a baker pact, that’s what I like to propose on parting from my office as secretary-general of the UIB. During 22 years (11 as secretary-general of the UIB), I was allowed to work for the baker trade; it becomes a part of me. I came to the conclusion that no other profession is scarcely closer to the human existence as the baker one. All around, I am grateful for the acquired practical and philosophic experience. By a pact with the own profession the UIB covers its attainment; it means guidelines leading promisingly in the future. The pact is like a creed, like a convention. Let us sign and live the pact as a creed to the most beautiful profession of this world.

1 Solidarity

Bakers made the UIB strong. You as members shape the backbone of the union. Take care to maintain this, as your future depends on! Facts of success are a healthy competition, friendship and the exchange of information and experience.

2 Continuity

Independence and interest of the bakers must be preserved. Active bakers secure all important positions in the union. The secretary-general works as coordinator.

3 Partnership

Partners belong to the baker family. Take care of the contact to suppliers, processors and purchasing cooperatives! Valid is also here: Put active bakers or interest representatives in all important positions of the UIB.

4 Family

Take care of your family. It means well-being and happiness. The family allows a harmonious life and supports in the challenging everyday work and contributes by it to the business success.

5 Succession

The generation change is of enormous importance. Pay attention to a punctual handing-over and an exact settlement of succession because the foundations are continuously changing. Make use of chances and realize: a prodigal son rarely comes back!

6 Entrepreneurship

The enterprise ‘UIB’ must continue with minimal administrative expenditure and the emphasis on economical, efficient acting. Concentrate in the own company on the essential! Reconsider regularly the business appearance and the range!

7 Identity

The identity of the bakers is supported by the UIB. Task of the national associations is to protect the baker professions in their countries. The affiliation to the UIB allows the members in a unique way to guard the profession by their variety, their education and the exchange of knowledge.

The members identify themselves with the logo of the baker association in their countries and distinguish themselves as advanced, organized and controlled bakeries.

8 Lobbying

The baker trade is an important part of the world trade and thus of the whole economy. By this it is in the middle of public interest. The politicians and opinion-formers are not automatically well disposed towards us; we must win their support by continuous good communication work and understandable, credible information.

The secretary-general of the UIB works as coordinator, as seismograph of the whole trade and as the sharp eye.

9 Baker pride

What would life be without bread? ‘Quite dull and boring’, most would answer. Therefore, are proud of your profession! Show that you are an important basic supplier! Illustrate it in the enterprise, in the appearance, in the clothing, in the service and, especially important, have it in your heart!

10 Final point

A manager of Coca-Cola is on a visit in the Vatican and offers 100 000 dollars to change the Lord’s Prayers. It should mean: ‘Give us this day our daily coke’ instead of ‘Give us this day our daily bread’. The secretary of the pope refuses indignantly. The manager increases his offer to 1 million dollars. The secretary hesitates and calls the pope: ‘His Holiness, how long the contract with the UIB is still running?’ Take care to this ‘contract’ as the Union internationale de la boulangerie et de la boulangerie-pâtisserie is a mark of quality!
